Cecelia M. Swayze, 98, of Oriskany, entered into Glory May 22, 2013, in the comfort of her own home, with her loving family at her side. She was born March 21, 1915 in Mechanicville, NY, the daughter of John William & Beatrice Louise Monty Callahan. On October 10, 1939, she married Sidney Ross Swayze in Troy, NY. He died October 14, 1975. Mrs. Swayze was employed as a cook for various places over the years. She was an excellent cook and was known for many wonderful dishes, especially turkey soup. Until recent years she loved to crochet. She often made baby blankets that she would give to others. She was a member of St. Stephen's Church, Oriskany until it's closing, then St. Paul's Church, Whitesboro. Thomas Saladin would administer communion to her every Sunday at home Her survivors include her three children, Barbara Snyder, Longneck, DE, Kevin and his wife Sharon Lee Swayze, Oriskany, and Sharon and her husband Steven Gleason, Central Square; grandchildren, Jodie and husband Jim Tierney, WI, Barbara and husband Joe Floeser, Altamont, James Regis Agustus and his wife Rebecca Snyder, MD, Sharon Christy an husband Jon Croley, NC, Kevin Shawn and his wife Rebecca Swayze, Ilion, Sherri Ann and her husband Tommie Neidermeier, Eden, Michelle and her husband Michael Risacher, Oswego, Daniel Saladin, Central Square, Jason Saladin, Clay, Amanda Knight, Central Square, and Step Grandson Steve Gleason II, Central Square; many great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rita Morgan, Mechanicville, and Kathleen Visvardis, Llano, NM; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, James Joseph Snyder; and siblings, Francis Callahan, Bernadine Gaspie, John Edmund Callahan, William Callahan, Raymond Callahan, Joan Begin, and George Callahan. "She was our very special Celtic woman, always a guiding light in our lives. Always lifting our spirits in times of sorrow. May we always offer God's Blessing to all, in her memory." The family extends their sincere thanks to Hospice Palliative Care, Inc., and to all of her caregivers, including Naomi, Georgia, Robin, Sunny, Lidia and Ada. Also a thank you to her 'special granddaughters' Hannah and Sarah Starsiak, for their love and companionship. Funeral service will be June 1, 2013, at St. Paul's Church at 9:30 AM, 16 Park Ave., Whitesboro, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Interment will be in Oriskany Cemetery. There are no prior calling hours. Arrangements are in care of Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Forty Main St., Whitesboro. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Hospice in memory of Ceil Swayze.
