Dale J. Smith, 75, of Barneveld, passed away on Sunday April 21, 2013, at Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare with the love and support of his family at his side. He was born in Utica on September 13, 1937, a son of the late Howard and Grace (Skiff) Smith. He graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1955 and from Utica College in 1959. On June 24, 1961, Dale was married to Roberta (Bobbie) Street of Lake George, NY and together they raised five children to whom he was always devoted. After graduation from college, he joined his family's business - the former Smith's Laundry and Dry Cleaning in Utica. Along with his brother Wayne, they co-owned and operated the business for more than 22 years. He also spent many years as a Dale Carnegie course instructor. Dale was involved with sports throughout his life and always took great pleasure in watching his children play and coaching their teams. He became an avid golfer and was a long time member of the Glass Hill, Inlet, and Pinehurst (NC) golf clubs. On many a summer morning he would be out on an Adirondack lake trolling for lake trout. He enjoyed piloting his single engine plane and was always eager to take family and friends on excursions and scenic rides. He and Bobbie were members of the local duplicate bridge clubs, and he was so proud when they achieved Life Master status. He loved his family and always enjoyed company and conversation. His wit and his warmth will be fondly remembered. Dale is survived by his wife Bobbie, his son Scott and wife Stella (Guarini) of Worcester MA, his daughter Wendy and husband Michael Foye of Westernville, his son Douglas of New Hartford, his son David of Syracuse, his son Alex and wife Susan (Meehan) of Syracuse, and his grandchildren Shane Foye, Molly Foye, Cassandra Smith, Christopher Smith, Elizabeth Smith and Anna Smith. He also leaves his brother Wayne and wife Joyce (Dresser) of Fort Pierce, FL/West Eaton, NY and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours are Thursday from 5-7 PM at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 1123 Court St., at York St., Utica.
