Francis E. Smith, born August 9, 1935, passed away October 9, 2012. Fran, the son of LeRoy and Izetta Edgett Smith, received his education in Oriskany, NY, where he resided. He married his high school sweetheart, Ann Towne. Fran retired from the Town of Whitestown after 38 years, including 22 ½ years of dedication and compassion as Highway Superintendent. Recently he retired from the Oneida County Sheriff's Dept. after 13 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Ann Towne Smith; his daughters, Debi Rondeau (Doug), Paula Witte, and Brenda Aubert (Bert); his son, Gregory Smith (Christine); nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Seeley; a brother Howard Smith; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two granddaughters, Cheri Lynn Zygmunt, and Krysta Ann Witte; sisters, Jane Smith, Ruth Shepard and Marjorie DeVoe; and his brother, Walter Smith. The family extends special thanks to Oriskany Fire Dept., and Central Oneida County Ambulance. Funeral services will be Friday, 7:00 p.m., at Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Forty Main Street, Whitesboro. Calling hours are Friday, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral. Please omit flowers. Those desiring may consider memorial donations to the American Heart Association, Oriskany Fire Dept., and Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
