Fultonham- Gladys C. Wayman, 88, longtime resident of Fultonham, died Friday, March 1, 2013 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home with her granddaughter at her side.
Born March 21, 1924 in Breakabeen, she was the daughter of Manley D. and Hester E. (Pelham) Coons.
Gladys was an active member of the former Fultonham United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. She attended weekly Bible Study at Fanchon Cornell's home. Gladys was a member of the Middleburgh Golden Agers, and the Homemakers' Association. She served as the historian for the Town of Fulton for many years.
Gladys was a caregiver for two ARC consumers and also provided respite care for several area families.
In her spare time she enjoyed baking and decorating cakes and loved to sing.
Gladys married Walter Wayman on Dec. 24, 1943 and he predeceased her Oct. 3, 1985. She was also predeceased by two sons: Donald in 2007 and Lawrence in 1984, and a brother, Claude Coons in 1994.
Survivors include her three grandchildren: Donna (Greg) Mickel of Sharon Springs, Sean (Cathy) Wayman of Acra, NY, and Jason Wayman of Windham; sister-in-law: Amparo "Pardy" Coons of Middleburgh; four great-grandchildren: Connor and Ethan Mickel, Matthew Wayman, and Lindsay Wayman; one great-great-granddaughter: Tattiana Pope; nephew: Claude (Liz) Coons; and three great-nephews: Trevor, Mark and Aaron Coons.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Fultonham Union Church, State Route 30, Fultonham, NY. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the church prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM on Monday. Spring interment will be in Breakabeen Cemetery.
