Cobleskill- Howard J. Stauble, 85, of Parkway Drive, died peacefully at his home on Friday, January 18, 2013.

Born March 11, 1927 in Kingston, he was a son of Francis and Margaret (Howard) Stauble. Raised and educated in Kingston, Howard was employed by Olive Co-op Insurance Company (later known as Colonial Co-op Insurance Co.) from 1947 until 1969.

In 1969 he accepted a position with Sterling Insurance Company and moved to Cobleskill. For twenty-four years he was the company's vice president, retiring in 1993, and continued to serve on the Board of Directors until present. Howard was a member of the Society of Property Casualty Underwriters, a professional insurance educational organization, receiving his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters, designation in 1965.

His strong interest and support in charitable organizations also led him to become a member of the Kingston Lions Club and serve as Sight Conservation Chairman, working with the visually handicapped.
A community minded individual, Howard was active in Big Brothers and mentoring programs for many years, long term member and past president of the Rotary Club of Cobleskill, receiving the Paul Harris Fellowship Awards from Rotary for support of the charitable and educational programs of Rotary International.

He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where he served as a trustee, member of the building committee for the new church, and a member of the Finance Committee, serving as chairman at one time.

Howard proudly served his country in the United States Navy, enlisting in 1945 and served aboard a fleet tanker in the Pacific Theater and at Tokyo Bay at the signing of the Peace Treaty ending WW II. Following his discharge, he returned to Kingston High School and graduated in 1947. By then he had met his future wife, Joyce Pangburn, and they graduated together.

In Howard's leisure time, he enjoyed golf, boating, camping, walking, hiking, reading, and most importantly, his family. Growing up on the family farm in Hurley, NY, strengthened his pleasure in gardening throughout his life.

He was predeceased by his son, Paul, in 2002; his sister, Marianne Havens, and a brother, Charles Stauble.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce K. Stauble, whom he married August 8, 1948; his children: Gail Stauble of Schoharie and Mark (Katy) Stauble of Moose Pass, AK; his grandchildren: Amy Akers, Christopher Stauble, Jennifer Delgato, Charles H. Beehner, Kristin Mihuta, Jacob Stauble, and Samuel Stauble; great-grandchildren: Eli Mihuta, Mackenzie and Nathaniel Stauble, Leanna Goodwin, Zoe and Peyton Akers, and Justin and Taylor Anderson; four sisters: Catherine McGahn, Frances Rowe, and Patricia Hall all of Kingston, Margaret Mearns of Ulster Park; and two brothers: Thomas Stauble of Gilroy, CA and Paul Stauble of Kingston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 PM on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held on Monday, January 21 from 1:30 to 3:30PM and 6 to 8PM at the church. Spring interment will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
