Janice P. Kratzert, 88, of Yorkville, passed away October 12, 2012, at Abraham House, with her family at her side. She was born April 17, 1924, in Yorkville, the daughter of Alfred T. and Margaret Hayes Peters. Janice was a graduate of Whitesboro Central High School, and Utica School of Commerce. She married John W. Kratzert on March 16, 1946, in Tabernacle Baptist Church, Utica. Mrs. Kratzert worked as a legal secretary for many years; she served as the assistant to the Chaplain at Rhodes Hospital, worked as a secretary at Whitesboro Central School, was Fiscal Officer for the Village of Yorkville, and was active in the operation of her family business, Yorkville Battery. Janice was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was also a member of Whitestown Genetaska, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, past president and honorary member of the Utica Maennerchor, and past president of the Clinton Figure Skating Club. She is survived by her husband, John; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Connie and Michael Schreppel; two grandsons, Joshua and his wife Colleen Schreppel, and Jordan Schreppel, all of Yorkville; her sisters-in-law, Nancy Kratzert and family, and Ann Barnes and family; and dear friends, Robert and Dorothy Hagues, Linda Maring, and Sharon Jennings. The family wishes to thank the nurses at Allen Calder One West, and the Abraham House, for their care and compassion. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Forty Main Street, Whitesboro. Interment will be in Grand View Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Abraham House. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
