John S. Siedsma, Jr, 83, a resident of Lutheran Care and formerly of Whitesboro and Utica died February 4, 2013 at Lutheran Care. John was born April 3, 1929 in Utica a son of John S. and Mary Ames Siedsma and was a graduate of Whitesboro High School in 1948. He served in the U S Air Force during the Korean War for 4 years. John was employed with the Savings Bank of Utica for 37 years until his retirement in 1991, where he helped to open the New Hartford and Whitesboro branches He received the Community Service Award in June of 1998 from the Alzheimer's Association. John was a member of Moriah-Olivet United Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir for many years. He was also a member of the St. David's Society of Utica and sang in the St. David's Choir (Cor Decri Sant) for over 20 years. He is survived by his twin brother and sister-in-law William A. and Anita Siedsma of East Hartford, CT; a brother-in-law William J. D'Avanzo of Long Island, NY; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister Ann D'Avanzo, his brother and sister-in-law Benjamin and Betty Siedsma, a niece Beverly Siedsma Vazquez and his special friend of 43 years Evan Gwyndaf Roberts. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2-5 at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford, where a funeral service will follow at 5 PM. Interment will be in the spring in Grand View Cemetery, Whitesboro. Friends may consider the Moriah-Olivet United Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or the Lutheran Homes Foundation in his memory.
