Mary Ellen Nelson, 87, of New Hartford, died on Friday, February 15, 2013, at Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare. She was born on March 5, 1925, in Utica, a daughter of the late William and Margaret Melcher Otto. She married Jack P. Nelson on February 7, 1948, in Utica. He died on July 30, 1990. Mary Ellen worked for Wonder Bread for many years as a bookkeeper. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. Mary Ellen enjoyed the social hour at the casino playing the slots. She is survived by her children, Gary Nelson and his wife, Kathy of New Hartford, Kevin Nelson and his wife, June of Syracuse, Chris Epstein and her husband, Bill of CA, Stephen Nelson and his wife, Susan of Yorkville, David Nelson of NC, Kathy Moore and her husband, Erik of Clayville and Jeff Nelson and his wife, Liz of Frankfort; grandchildren, Carly and her husband, Anthony DeFuria, Sean, Daniel, Shea, David, Jr. and Annie Nelson and Carol Fox. In addition she is survived by a special friend, Norma Ellis of Florida and all her friends at the Point Apartments in New Hartford. She was predeceased by her brother, John Otto and a sister, Theresa Riley. The funeral will be (today) Saturday at 2:00 at the Dimbleby, Friedel Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. Interment will be in Green Lawn Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours will be on Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, please consider the charity of choice in memory of Mary Ellen.
