Shirley M. Jones, age 89, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2012, at Faxton-St. Luke's Medical Center in New Hartford, NY after a short illness. Shirley was born May 3, 1923, in Ilion, NY, to James and Bertha Morrow. She was a very proud graduate of U.F.A. Class of 1941. She worked at New York Telephone Co. as an operator and sales rep. retiring as a special sales rep. out of Albany, NY, after 28 years of service. She was the executive secretary to the Telephone Commercial Union and was elected President from 1975 to 1981. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Shirley was past local, state and national President of the American Gold Star Mothers Inc., American Legion Auxiliary Whitestown Post #1113., a life member of VFW 7393 New York Mills and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Whitesboro Presbyterian Church. She leaves her daughter, Nancy of New Hartford, her son, Bill and his wife, Florence of Barneveld, and a niece, Janet BeBee of New Hartford. She also leaves her dear friend Mary Wheeler of Yorkville and a very special friend, J. Earl Sickler of Newport. She was predeceased by her sister, Vivian, her brother, Robert and by her son, PFC Thomas G. Jones, USMC. The funeral will be on Monday at 1:00 at the Whitesboro Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Calling hours will be on Monday from 10:00 to 12:00 at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford prior to the funeral. The family wishes to thank the staff at Faxton-St. Luke's ICU Unit for their care and compassion during this difficult time. The family would also like to thank Dr. Steven LaGrant and Patty for all the years of love, hugs and kisses.
