New Hartford – Wanda J. Warren, 85, of New Hartford passed away February 2, 2013 in the comfort of her home surrounded by the love of her family. She was born March 11, 1927 in Westernville, a daughter of Leon and Zelia (Warren) Denslow. She graduated from Boonville High School in the class of 1944. On May 23, 1947, Wanda was united in marriage with Merwin Warren in Spencer, NY. Wanda was a member of the former Clinton Road Baptist Church, now Crosspoint Church. She enjoyed owning standardbred harness horses, and racing them at Vernon Downs and Green Mountain Racetracks. Known for having a true "green thumb", she enjoyed gardening and raising houseplants. Baking pies were a specialty, especially those made with berries that her children would pick for her. Survivors include three children, Merwin, Jr. of New Hartford, Carolyn Grimaldi and her husband, Dennis, of Verona, and Ralph Warren and his wife, Penny, of Rome; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Katie, Holly, Johnny, Tricia, Renee and Dennis; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Wallace of Boonville, and a sister, Hilda Eck of New Hartford; several nieces and nephews; and two feline companions, Noah and her special buddy, Micah. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Richard, a daughter, Cherie, a brother, Karl, and a sister, Pauline. The family would like to thank caregivers Carolyn Martin, Dawn Witte, and Johann Kulik, Dr. Kevin McCormick, PT Visiting Nurse Lance A., and the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care for the loving and compassionate care given to Wanda. A Special Thank You to Larry Daniels for keeping up the property. Her funeral will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday (tomorrow) from 6-8 p.m. Friends are asked to consider a donation in Wanda's memory to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio Street, Utica, NY 13502. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
